ABOUT STEVEN
My wife, Janelle, and I chose Miami Lakes as the ideal community to raise our family. She grew up in Miami Lakes from a young age, and the decision for us move here was fueled by a vision of a town that embodies the values we hold dear. The people of Miami Lakes encapsulate the stories of my family's diverse and courageous journeys. On my father's side, my grandparents, Holocaust concentration camp survivors sought refuge in New York after my father's birth in post-war Germany. In April 1947, my father’s family left for the U.S., arriving at Ellis Island via steam ship for their commitment to pursue the American Dream. On my mother's side, the escape from the Castro regime in 1961, where my grandparents placed her on a Pan Am flight alone to stay with relatives, to be reunited many months later in Miami, illustrates the depth of their commitment to ensuring her opportunity for a better life in the United States. These stories have left an indelible mark on my values and have uniquely shaped my perspective on the importance of our system of government and the important foundations our community is governed by.
MY EXPERIENCE
I pursued my education at The George Washington University, earning degrees in International Affairs and Geography. Subsequently, I attended the University of Miami School of Law, and began a career as an attorney. Since 2014, I have had law practice focused in real estate transactions, and civil legal disputes within Florida, navigating complexities in State, Appeals, and Federal Courts. Prior to moving to Miami Lakes and while residing in Downtown Miami, I chaired the traffic and pedestrian committee for the Downtown Neighborhood Alliance. This experience honed my commitment to advocating for residents' needs and concerns. In August 2020, I was appointed to the Miami Lakes Blasting Advisory Board by Vice Mayor Jeffery Rodriguez. On the Board I have had the honor to advocate at the County and State level for all residents in Miami Lakes for legislative and regulatory changes relating to the near by rock mine blasting. I have been committed to actively contributing to our community's growth and well-being, and advocating for different matters not only on the Blasting Advisory Board but also in Town Hall as a frequent speaker on issues facing the town.
RESIDENTS FIRST
Seeking to contribute further to the community, I am pursuing a position on the Miami Lakes Town Council. My goal is to guide the town's growth in a direction that aligns with the vision of a town to raise a family in that has brought so many people to Miami Lakes for decades. I am committed to establishing a model of trust and transparency in local government that can serve as an example for municipalities across Florida.
My focus will always be on the residents of Miami Lakes. I aim to ensure that residents are well-informed about the town's affairs, fostering a sense of community. As we shape the future of Miami Lakes, let's not forget the character and services that make us proud to be part of the best municipality in Miami-Dade County.
